vibroacoustic therapy for seniors

Our bodies are composed largely of water—about 70% in older adults—and when sound vibrations move through the body, this water begins to gently shift. As the molecules react and communicate with one another, they help restore harmony and healthy resonance throughout the body. Vibroacoustic Therapy (VAT) can support this natural process and relieve many common challenges experienced by seniors. It has been shown to improve sleep, reduce anxiety, ease chronic pain, and support individuals with COPD, asthma, and other breathing difficulties. Many seniors also experience relief from osteoarthritis, improved circulation and blood pressure regulation, and reduced constipation. VAT has additionally been used with great success to aid stroke rehabilitation, lower stress levels, extend mobility, and provide meaningful sensory stimulation for individuals living with progressive neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease.

A VAT session is soothing, effortless, and deeply relaxing. Clients simply lie on a specially designed sound lounge or sit comfortably with a sound pillow as gentle, curated frequencies flow through the body. After the session, clients can discuss their experience with the therapist, review any changes noticed, and adjust future sessions to optimize results. While VAT is not a cure for medical conditions, it can be highly effective in easing symptoms and enhancing overall comfort and well-being.

Most seniors can benefit from vibroacoustic therapy; however, it is not recommended for individuals with very low blood pressure, active bleeding disorders or thrombus, or PTSD. For many older adults, VAT offers meaningful benefits such as drug-free pain relief from arthritis or injuries, better and more restorative sleep, faster recovery after knee or hip replacement, reduced symptoms associated with Parkinson’s disease and pulmonary conditions, deep relaxation, decreased anxiety, a more positive outlook, improved quality of life, enhanced circulation, more stable blood pressure, and relief from constipation.
