vibroacoustic therapy

what is it

Vibroacoustic therapy (VAT) is a drug-free treatment that uses low-frequency sound vibrations. The vibrations permeate throughout the body as a gentle massage deep into the cells.

How does it work

VAT was developed in the 1980s by Olav Skille, a Norwegian researcher who was interested in the effects of sound on the body. Skille found that using low-frequency sound vibrations in the range of 30Hz-120Hz can have a positive effect on the body's ability to heal and maintain good health and well-being.

how does it feel

Often clients report feeling pleasant sensations in the body while in a relaxed state.  At Touch of Sound you will be blanketed in vibrations of carefully curated frequency while resting on a sound bed.

what does it do for me

There is over forty years of research showing that VAT can treat a number of conditions. Chronic pain, Stress, Depression, Anxiety, Alzheimer's disease and dementia, COPD, Sports injuries, Stomach pain/Colic, Impaired blood circulation, Headache, Migraine and much more.

vat vs. sound bath

How does VAT differ from a frequency sound bath

Vibroacoustic Therapy (VAT) uses low-frequency vibrations delivered through specialized equipment to create deep, targeted physical effects that help address specific concerns. In contrast, a sound bath is a passive, immersive experience in which you simply listen to soothing sounds—such as gongs, singing bowls, or calming music—to encourage relaxation and a meditative state.

Both modalities can offer profound benefits for your physical and mental well-being.

what to expect during a vibroacoustic therapy session

Before the session:

You will complete an information form. Then you and the therapist will complete a session in-take form, discuss any specific concerns you may have, and take biometrics pre-treatment. Biometrics can include blood pressure, pulse oximeter, range of motion, pain and stress level scales.

During the session:

Your therapist will walk you through breathing and mind-body connection exercises. As you relax gentle vibrations will be played through a sound lounge or a sound pillow. Once the frequencies have completed your therapist will help you transition out of the experience.

The session lasts from 25 to 35 minutes.

After the session:

Once you are ready, the therapist will take post-treatment biometrics and you will be given time to reflect on your experience and record any outcomes.

Please note the importance of hydration! Water, acting as a natural conductor, enhances sound vibrations throughout the body and amplifies the therapeutic effects of the vibroacoustic session. Additionally, drinking water post-session helps with detoxification, and maintaining balance.
